As soon as the first-week grosses for “A Nightmare on Elm Street” came in the studio behind the film announced a sequel.
In 3-D, no less.
The news hit so fast it even caught Freddy Krueger himself, Jackie Earle Haley, off guard.
But this weekend’s sobering ticket stats might give the film’s creators’ pause.
“Elm Street” dropped 72 percent from its opening weekend haul. That’s an enormous decline for any movie, and likely based on the poor word of mouth the reboot spawned.
In recent months, we’ve learned a planned sequel to the “Friday the 13th” reboot got scrapped. Seems like the folks behind Freddy’s return might start rethinking their sequel dreams.
