What’s holding up Howard Stern’s remake of ‘Porky’s?’

Howard Stern fans have been waiting … and waiting … to see his take on “Porky’s.”

After all, who better than the King of All Lesbians to update the classic sex comedy? And aren’t remakes the coin of the realm of late?

But time keeps marching on without a sign of such a remake.

What gives? Stern proved he could draw a crowd with “Private Parts,” a shockingly good biopic which showed the radio bad boy could act – and pick the right partners to tell his life story.

I recently chatted with Craig Moss, the director behind the new Judd Apatow parody “The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About it.”

Moss’s name is attached to the “Porky’s” remake according to imdb.com, so I decided to ask him about it.

Finally, some tangible information about the project’s status.

Not exactly.

“I did a rewrite of the script,” Moss told WWTW. “I don’t know what they’re doing with it [now].”

“They say every year it’s going to happen, but it’s been six years,” he says.

And Moss never even spoke with Stern for the project.

“I spoke to his agent,” he says.

WWTW will keep readers posted if there are any developments here. But it seems like “Porky’s” might be the kind of project on indefinite hold.

Do we really need a Porky’s remake? It wasn’t that good the first time around. Maybe Hollywood has moved past it with the Hangover, Super Bad, Hot Tub Time Machine etc. and feels it won’t translate to today’s market. If the idea where that good, it would have been made by now.

Suggestion 1: Howard should Ask Richard and Sal to work on it. They’re the only ones that do any work on that show – when its live that is. Which is less and less. Actually I know teachers that jealous of the time Howard gets off.

Suggestion 2: Give Opie & Anthony a listen.

Sorry went off topic.

Agree on all fronts … I’ve never given O&A a fair shake, though. I did sit in with them years ago during a broadcast which was great fun.

I hated Porky’s with the heat of a thousand suns (and my opinion of Howard Stern isn’t much better than that), but Stern did produce “Son of the Beach,” a short-lived Baywatch spoof that was very, very funny. If he can infuse this with the same comic spirit, it might not be half-bad.

I think Porky’s is fine the way it is and should be left alone. I believe it to be one of the best talked about 80’s movies. What about those nostalgic moments about watching your first rated R movie? I don’t want the conversation to switch over to, “but did you see the remake?” Do remakes bring back the popularity of the original? Porky’s doesn’t really fall into that unknown category. Unless you’re part of the Z generation, I guess.

Plus, way before Sex and The City there was “Lassie” Honewell.

If anybody can do this Howard can. It needs to be made to show the fun of trying to get laid. Young adults will flock to this. Especially dudes.

I don’t know what you guys are talking about but Porkys is a classic one of the most funniest movies I ever saw next to Revenge of the Nerds and Dumb and Dumber! I don’t know about Howard Stern remaking it though I’m not a fan of Howard Stern and he is far from funny!
