Showgirls blu ray

Thank goodness for Blu-ray extras.

The 15th anniversary edition of “Showgirls,” the so awful it’s great dancer drama, hits Blu-ray June 15.

And not only do you get the camp classic in high definition, with every glitter-encrusted outfit on full display, the release comes with a bevy of tasty extras:

  • A lap dance tutorial featuring the girls from Scores nightclub
  • “Showgirls” trivia
  • A “Showgirls” diary from the set
  • Commentary from writer David Schmader, who insists the general public doesn’t understand the sheer greatness that is “Showgirls.”
  • “Pole Dancing: Finding Your Inner Stripper”

A lap dance tutorial? Seriously? That’s certainly an “extra.”

On a related matter is it worth getting a Blu-Ray player. I’m still trying to build up my DVD collection. To drop all that and suddenly go blu-ray seems counter productive. It just doesn’t seem to be worth the extra razzle and dazzle. I could be wrong though. I know Blu-ray player prices have been dropping which is always a good thing. On the other hand the actual movies are about ten to fifteen dollars more.

It’s a very tough call.

Blu-ray players play regular DVDs, which is crucial. And they make regular DVDs look a smidge better – that’s the conventional wisdom and I think its fair based on my own eyeballs.

The real question is your TV – is it 1080P? If not, I wouldn’t bother with a Blu-ray since the 1080p is the best way to take advantage of Blu-ray’s detail and clarity.

It’s still a tough call. I went Blu-ray partially for my gig here … but I was still torn on it for a while. But now I really get a buzz out of watching the Blu-ray images on the screen.
