Lest anyone think “Twilight” is strictly for teens, consider the frenzy on college campuses for Bella and co.
And, says the proprietor of HeidiTown, the franchise casts a similar spell on 30- and 40-something women.
I became interested in this phenomenon because a lot of my friends were getting into Twilight (30-somethings) and then a 48-year-old friend went wild for the books – and she’s not alone. There are literally thousands of women in their 40s and 50s who are crazy about Twilight. I find it very odd indeed, because in my opinion the books are poorly written. But I think author Stephenie Meyer tapped into the feeling of “young love” that a lot of women so desperately want to relive.
Lastly, Meyer left the door wide open for “filling in the blanks” which is why Twilight fan fiction is so huge. These adult women fans can write in all the sex scenes they had only imagined while reading the squeaky clean books.
Comment of the Week: Adults heart ‘Twilight,’ too
