DVDs of the Week: Mumblecore and more

(Note: WWTW will be showcasing the latest DVD and Blu-ray releases each Tuesday. If there are other details you’d like to see included in this weekly roundup, please let me know in the comments section)

  • The Bounty Hunter” – All the sexual tension the tabloids told us about goes missing in this new rom-com featuring Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston as dueling exes. The Blu-ray extras include “Making The Bounty Hunter,” “Rules for Outwitting a Bounty Hunter” and “Stops Along The Road: Hunting Locations”
  • “Chloe” – Julianne Moore plays a woman who suspects her husband (Liam Neeson) is having an affair. So she hires an escort (Amanda Seyfried) to test his fidelity. Bad move. Extras include commentary with Amanda Seyfried, Director Atom Egoyan and Writer Erin Cressida Wilson; “Introducing Chloe: The Making of Chloe” and deleted scenes Not reviewed by WWTW.
  • Greenberg” – Ben Stiller pairs up with director Noah Baumbach (“The Squid & the Whale”) for this off-putting dramedy about a man trying to reboot his life. The so-called Mumblecore style comes into focus when Stiller’s character meets Florence (Greta Gerwig, best known for uber-indie films like “Nights and Weekends” and “Baghead”). The slight extras include: “A Behind the Scenes Look at “Greenberg,” “Greenberg Loves Los Angeles” and “Greenberg: Noah Baumbach Takes a Novel Approach.”
  • Our Family Wedding” – This ethnic mashup proves stale stereotypes do not a comedy make, even if Oscar winner Forest Whitaker is on hand to do some heavy lifting. A perky Latina woman plans to marry a nice black gentleman, but their respective families have a hard time sorting through their cultural differences. The Blu-ray package includes deleted scenes, extended scenes, a “‘Til Death Do Us Part” featurette, the Director’s Cut ending and a gag reel.
  • Saint John of Las Vegas” – (DVD only) Steve Buscemi gets a rare leading role in this disappointing comedy. Heplays a frazzled insurance agent trying to land a promotion by kissing up to his boss (Peter Dinklage). The quirky humor is relentless, wasting a fine lead performance and another droll turn by Dinklage. DVD extras – none.
