Movie blogger beats back FanboyNation

Michelle Alexandria has had it with movie fanboys.

And WWTW feels her pain.

Any movie critic who puts his or her work online is bound to get critiqued. Heck, we slam movies with regularity … we should be able to handle a few tough comments.

But it gets ugly – fast – when you post a negative review of a Fanboy-Approved film like ‘Inception.”

Alexandria, who didn’t care for “Inception,”  let loose on the haters over at her Eclipsemagazine.com site:

I’m sick of dealing with idiot fanboys/fangirls who cannot come up with an argument beyond the childish “Oh my god, she gave a movie I don’t like a great review and movies that I like a bad one.” It’s an opinion, deal with it.

If you cannot come up with a more intelligent argument than that, don’t bother to leave a comment here. I will delete it. I’m sick of all the vile emails and comments on [Rottentomatoes.com], I’m not going to allow Eclipse to get flooded with that garbage as well. If you want to say something intelligent about why you think Inception is the bestest film ever, that’s fine, but I’m tired of the personal, childish, misogynistic attacks. You all claim to be so scary intelligent because you understand this movie and the rest of us are morons because “obviously” we didn’t – prove it by acting like an adult.

I’ve been slammed in the past for daring to find flaws in films like “Wall*E” and “Drag Me to Hell,” two movies near and dear to Fanboys.

Generally, I’m delighted to get constructive criticism on this site. Sometimes a reader will point out a typo or mistake and I’ll do my best to correct it immediately. I’m a one-person operation, and I don’t have copy editors assessing my work for mistakes.

But other comments are more cruel, casting doubts on my ability to review films based on a single post, or lobbing personal attacks my way for daring to disagree with them.

WWTW, in toto, attracts smart movie fans who keep me honest and, ultimately, help me improve as a critic. So I don’t feel the need to directly respond to those who think “Inception” is “Citizen Kane” on steroids and I’m a fool for not recognizing it.

But I know where Alexandria is coming from.

I really don’t know what the crackheads are smoking, I was BORED to tears and it wasn’t that hard to understand. Hello? Dreamscape?

And this coming from a guy who loved all of Nolan’s other films.

The thing that I fail to understand. Why do some people take it as an affront that there might be someone in this world who has a different point of view than they do?

With so many different kinds of people, is it so hard to understand that they may have different opinions? Apparently so.

From her comments:

“Your post kind of tells us how low the bar has been set on what counts as “cerebral” and the mark of your intelligence doesn’t it? You must be a Palin supporter.”

Wow … very classy, indeed

No wonder I like WWTW so much! I disliked Wall-E and Drag Me To Hell. (My main problem, of many, is I get my hopes up so high over the rave reviews and fanboy chatter that the film has a tough time achieving such a high goal. Likewise, the reverse is also true.)
