3D Wars! ‘Piranha 3D’ producer blasts Cameron, calls him ’self-serving’

‘Gentleman, you can’t fight in here … this is a war room!”

The producer behind “Piranha 3D” is taking exception to James Cameron’s slam against his fishy take on the 3-D movement. And you don’t even need those silly glasses to enjoy the war of words.

Cameron, the uber-confident director behind “Avatar,” started the ruckus over at VanityFair.com by saying the new “Piranha” film helps give 3-D movies a bad name.

Now, “Piranha 3D” producer Mark Canton is firing back – with a tersely worded press release. Don’t make him angry, or he’ll Tweet it, too!

“Mr. Cameron, who singles himself out to be a visionary of movie-making, seems to have a small vision regarding any motion pictures that are not his own.  It is amazing that in the movie-making process – which is certainly a team sport – that Cameron consistently celebrates himself out as though he is a team of one.  His comments are ridiculous, self-serving and insulting to those of us who are not caught up in serving his ego and his rhetoric.”

And Canton is just getting warmed up.

“Let’s start by you accepting the fact that you were the original director of PIRANHA 2 and you were fired.  Shame on you for thinking that genre movies and the real maestros like Roger Corman and his collaborators are any less auteur or impactful in the history of cinema than you. Martin Scorcese [sic] made Boxcar Bertha at the beginning of his career.  And Francis Ford Coppola made Dimentia 13 [sic] back in 1963.  And those are just a few examples of the  talented and successful filmmakers whose roots are in genre films.  Who are you to impugn any genre film or its creators?

Young directors should be inspired by you, not publicly castigated by your mean-spirited and flawed analysis.”

Yes, I know I’m simply prolonging the fight and giving “Piranha 3D” more publicity. But Cameron needs to know he’s not actually the king of the world, and more people who love a good horror film should check out “Piranha 3D.”

Besides, knowing how swiftly Cameron backs down from a fight, it’s likely the skirmish will end here.

oops. Sorry for the anatomically profane description. I should know better. Please delete my rough comment on what I think of Cameron as a person.

Hmm, I don’t think I ever heard of Mark Canton before this. Well, he just made one heck of a first impression, as I now instantly respect him.

That’s alright, Mike B. James Cameron IS a supreme Ahole and deserved to be called a supreme Ahole for life.

Thanks for the self censorship, Mike B … and for the “a-hole” derivation, Con Filmlover. Maybe it’s silly to use the “f-word” instead of actually saying/or typing it, but I’m trying to keep things PG 13 around here!

How dare you speak to me – Cameron, Savior of the Universe, Fuhrer of Flicks, Pornographer of blue creature sex, in such an irreverent tone! Lowly vermin! Who helped you write this insubordinate reprimand – Linda Hamilton?! [If so, the alimony check's in the mail, don't hurt me]. Anyhoo – How dare thee, worm! I have solar panels and I drive a Volt, my publicist tells me! I’m special and handsome, my mom tells me! I’m humble, generous and self effacing, Keith Olbermann tells me! Oh, you will soon feel the wrath of a thousand tweets! You do not want me as an enemy – I’ll totally make ridiculous demands of you and then cancel – just like I did to Breitbart who is now a broken shell of a man, Huffington Post tells me.

Cameron is the quintessential bully (which may be a factor in 5 failed marriages, but that’s petty on my part). Lots of bluster and self-importance, but when someone doesn’t back off, he looks for the nearest exit. Years from now, his films will be seen as great spectacles in special effects, but (like George Lucas) he won’t be considered a great director. You have to have deeper stories and better character development to earn that title. Christopher Nolan seems to be the GT student in this classroom…

Umm Mr. Cameron, Pirhana was better than Avatar.

Never bothered to waste my money on Cameron’s preachy enviroturd of a movie. Saw Pirhana3d the other night and had a great time. Jumped out of my seat a couple of times and best of all my girlfriend held onto me throughout. That’s good movie making….scares and laughs rather than lectures.

Holy ***! I just read Cameron’s interview. My favorite part is where he says (without a trace of self aware irony) “People are just a little bit too full of themselves.”

I almost fell out of my chair laughing.
