This year, WWTW braved Halloween eve as Lt. Dangle from “Reno 911!”
Yes, I should be dressing as a movie character, but the “Reno 911! Miami” movie counts … right?
Anyway, before I prepared my costume I tallied up some quick suggestions for horror movie watching this weekend.
A little something for everyone, I hope …
- The classics: You don’t need WWTW to tell you to see “The Exorcist,” “The Shining,” “Night of the Living Dead,” “The Omen” or “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” right? But a reminder never hurts.
- The overlooked: Films like “Eden Lake,” “Rogue,” “Splinter,” “The House of the Devil” and “Quarantine” got little attention during their theatrical releases. And that’s a shame since they’re all far better than any “Saw” installment. And if you like your horror on the grisly side, don’t miss “The Midnight Meat Train.”
- Quality torture porn: “Wolf Creek” starts slowly, but it’s the nastiest horror film I’ve seen in a while. Rent at your own risk.
- Horror comedies: “Tremors” remains a favorite for fusing horror and yuks, but don’t forget the more recent “Slither” and the Grandfather of all horror comedies, “Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein.”

You’re going to wear those short shorts Lt. Dangle is known for? You’re a brave man, Mr. Toto.
Great to see some love for underrated horror movies like The House of the Devil and Wolf Creek. Have you ever seen a movie called The Last Broadcast? It’s about three guys who look for the Jersey Devil in the Pine Barrens and things kind of go downhill from there. Sadly, The Blair Witch Project came out about the same time and stole its thunder. I like Blair Witch, but think The Last Broadcast is so much better.
Never heard of The Last Broadcast … will put that on my ‘must see’ list … thanks!
And yeah, Mrs. WWTW is sewing the shorts right now!
Am I the only one always adding Neil Marshall’s ‘Dog Soldiers’ and ‘The Descent’ to the traditional Horror Lists??
What, no Shaun of the Dead for horror comedy?
I mention my love of “The Descent” so often on this site I didn’t want to repeat myself …
And, yes, “Shaun of the Dead” is another perfect example of horror comedy done right.
What about “Troll 2″ or “The Human Centipede”? What about my three favorites: “Psycho”, “Bride of Frankenstein” and “King Kong”(The Originals)?
Love Tremors! What is Mrs. WWTW going as? Will there be pictures posted for our perusal?
That’s Mrs. WWTW dressed up as a flying monkey – I updated the pic on this post. She’s the frightening one in the foreground.
Great pic (and posing)! Thanks for sharing!
