Or, at least this film critic does.
“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” represents a crucial cog in my life-long love of film. It’s one of four films I watched endlessly as a lad.
(The others were “King Kong,” “March of the Wooden Soldiers” and “The Wizard of Oz” – with “Mighty Joe Young” pinch hitting when needed)
“Chitty Chitty” hits Blu-ray for the first time Nov. 2, enough of a reason for me to watch the movie anew.
Dick Van Dyke stars as a wacky inventor who takes his children on the ride of their lives – and breaks out into song when the mood strikes.
Will it hold up? Beloved films from our past usually do – in that it’s all but impossible to evaluate them without detaching our emotions.
Here’s the trailer for the Blu-ray edition for your consideration. Suffice to say my inner child highly recommends it.

A highly underrated movie in my opinion.
I still love watching it when it airs on cable, but since the movie is so long to begin with, they always cut a few musical numbers. I hate when they do that.
My love for the film grew when, years later, I realized the lovable toy maker was … Benny Hill!
What I remember most from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is that nasty character that kidnaps the village children. Creeped me out as a little girl.
To tip everyone here to my age, I saw this film for the first time at the “Drive-In”.
The “Drive-In” was a place where people could drive their cars into and see a big outdoor screen with sound delivered through hard-wired heavy metallic speakers which would be attached into the drivers-side window (slightly rolled down).
I was a child, but fell in love with the movie from the back seat as my parents made out like bandits in the front seat. (My therapist and I still have a lot of issues to work out, it seems).
Great film. Great song (I can sing it to this day….which upsets my fellow morticians).
