Pixar animated films have become events unto themselves.
What other film studio could crank out out a threequel and make it just as terrific as the first two installments, like “Toy Story 3,” and some could argue even better?
One of the studio’s lesser delights, the 2006 film “Cars,” is getting sequelized next year.
This new trailer below offers up our first official tease, and it appears the clunky tow truck from the first film is getting a ton more screen time in part 2.
The original spun its wheels a tad too long, but it’s easy to believe the gang at Pixar will work out the bugs in time for the new installment.
Make sure June 24, 2011 is clear on your calendar.

Okay, dag nabbit. I’m hooked.
Cars is okay, but I’d rather see a sequel to The Incredibles.
@Paula: Cars is like a “Disney Princess” movie or TV show . . . just aimed at boys. Think marketing.
And yeah, I’d rather see a sequel to “The Incredibles” as well.
Even if Pixar is able to do quality sequels, it’s still a little sad to see them squandering their talent on retreads.
I can’t disagree with that, Opus. I’d much rather see a new story than another “Cars.” At this point you’d think there would be little need to fall back on sequels since every movie they make earns a small fortune.
And, frankly, I’m glad that “The Incredibles” hasn’t yielded a sequel. It’s a gem of a movie … let’s leave it at that.
