The Farrelly Brothers comedy “Stuck on You” seemed a sorry cinematic swan song for Cher.
But that 2003 comedy was her last screen role – until this week’s “Burlesque” hits theaters.
Denver-area critics weren’t allowed a glimpse at the new film which casts Cher as the legend helping train the ingenue (Christina Aguilera, or Xtina to her tabloid friends).
The film’s early reviews aren’t pretty, but that shouldn’t detract from some of Cher’s better screen performance. You can sample a few of them in the new “Cher: The Film Collection,” available now.
The box set features “Good Times,” “Chastity,” “Mermaids,” “Moonstruck,” “Silkwood” and “Tea with Mussolini.”
Where’s the love for “The Witches of Eastwick,” a deliriously entertaining film and a real gem from the ’80s? Cher’s bedroom confrontation with The Devil – AKA Jack Nicholson – is one for the ages.
Cher defied the odds to become an Oscar-winning actress as well as one capable of cranking out iconic screen moments with alacrity. Just consider this exchange from her celebrated turn in the 1987 romance “Moonstruck.”

I’m a girl, so ya I liked Mermaids. In high school we had to watch Mask, which she was fine in too. I think she’s a decent enough actress.
Burlesque looks awful! The 2010 Showgirls.
I’m embarrassed for the cast every time I see the previews.
As for Cher, I’ve never really been a fan. And her face sort of scares me. That being said, I do love “I’ve got you babe.”
