Fallout from Nat’l Board of Review awards

Director David Fincher’s “The Social Network” is ricocheting around the web today for all the right reasons.

The verbally gifted drama nabbed the Best Picture Award from the National Board of Review, as well as the Best Actor (Jesse Eisenberg), Best Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin) and Best Director (Fincher). That gives the movie the early lead in the annual Oscar-buzzometer.

Can’t find much to argue with regarding the announcement, though I’ve yet to see “Another Year,” “The Fighter” and “Of Gods and Men.”

Expect a gaggle of groups to announce their award selections in the coming weeks, all of which will be examined with a jeweler’s eye for Oscar impact. It’s sad … but it’s what movie geeks like WWTW do. Keeps us off the streets.

Then again, some critics are burned out by the process, and I can’t say I totally blame them.
