Sir Ben Kingsley and Geoffrey Rush both have Oscars and impeccable acting credentials.
But they don’t mind mixing in a little genre fare into their otherwise esteemed resumes.
Kingsley’s recent films include “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” and “BloodRayne.”
Rush’s new film, “The Warrior’s Way,” mashes up the western and samurai genres with alacrity. The cast also includes Kate Bosworth as the feisty female lead and the underrated character actor Danny Huston.
But it’s the presence of Rush that’s the head scratcher. He’s a bit more selective about his roles than Kingsley – who was in “A Sound of Thunder,” for crying out loud. Perhaps it’s hard to reject a role described on the “Warrior’s Way” web site as a “worn out drunk.”
Either way, the film wasn’t screened for critics. But if you’re hankering to get a feel for it, try out the film’s new app which lets visitors upload their picture to battle ninjas with a personal touch.
For what it’s worth, WWTW doesn’t make for an awe-inspiring warrior … but I did ring up 24 “kills” in my first round with the game.

Wait. When did Geoffrey “Casanova Frankenstein” Rush start getting selective about his roles?
He’s better than Kingsley, who takes on any role that comes his way. And for every Gandhi there’s a half dozen real clunkers!
I love Geoffrey Rush. That guy is nails in everything he is in.
I saw the trailers on TV, but I thought this was DTV and put it on my bargain bin/second-hand list. It just looks like the sort of movie that goes DTV despite a name cast and big(ish) budget. I was surprised to find out it was getting a theatrical release.
