A darn near perfect Blu-ray cover

It isn’t easy capturing the essence of a movie on its Blu-ray or DVD cover.

Some movies sell themselves with a single image – think “The 40-Year-Old Virgin.” Others require a bit of ingenuity to seal the deal.

Take “Cyrus,” the indie comedy hitting store shelves Dec. 14. The cover looks pretty ordinary at first – the stars lining up for a less than inspired portrait.

Look closer.

Co-star Jonah Hill’s hand is gently pressing John C. Reilly out of the frame, a perfect encapsulation of the comedy’s plot.

Hill’s character, Cyrus, wants to keep his mother (played by Marisa Tomei) all to himself. So when a new beau (Reilly) enters her life, he does everything he can to chase him away. The hand shove seen in the picture shrewdly hints at just how far Cyrus will go to make that happen.
