Santa Claus is giving movie fans the gift they didn’t ask for – a flotilla of new movie sequels.
The just-announced deal with Miramax and The Weinstein Company will let loose sequels to a variety of movies in a grab bag of genres.
The first sequel wave will involve “Bad Santa,” “Rounders” and “Shakespeare in Love” – insert your own parody titles as you see fit.
Here’s one to start – “Badder Santa: The Coal Edition.”
Other films ready to be sequelized include “Clerks,” “Shall We Dance,” “The Amityville Horror” and “Copland.” “From Dusk ‘Til Dawn” also made the list, but the film already spawned a number of low-grade sequels.
Movie fans have a simple choice – blindly pony up to see every sequel that hits movie theaters or demand original content.
The news should be good for indie filmmakers who traffic in fresh storylines and unexpected pleasures. Every time a needless sequel hits the cineplex it makes independent fare look more intriguing.

I’m going to go with “Shakespeare in Couple’s Counseling.” Or “Shakespeare In The Dog House.”
“Rounders: Round Two”
“Rounders: The Flop”, followed by “Rounders: The Turn” and “Rounders: The River”.
Didn’t “Clerks” already have a sequel?
Maybe the sequel to “Shakespeare in Love” will involve Viola’s life in America? Her outrage over that scourge called tobacco or the treatment of indigenous people under colonialism causes her to become the 16th century version of Erin Brockovich. Coming soon to a theater near you, “Viola: Out For Justice”.
LOL Paula!
My tolerance for unnecessary sequels ran out with Wall Street 2. Who on this planet was clamoring to see that?
Like Rounders?
