Where is that post-apocalyptic barber when you really need him?

Fantasy films demand a suspension of disbelief, and audiences are usually more than happy to oblige.

But sometimes these films really press their luck.

Consider “Resident Evil: Afterlife,” out on Blu-ray and DVD this week. The film follows the arse-kicking Alice (Milla Jovovich) in her quest to survive the zombie apocalypse.

The franchise isn’t exactly rooted in reality, but two of the supporting players in the latest chapter sport facial hair that demands near constant attention. Kim Coates’ character rocks a soul patch, while Boris Kodjoe’s beard looks like it needs daily trimming to maintain its elegant lines.

Really? You’re one of the last human survivors of a zombie virus outbreak, and you spend serious mirror time each day to nail your look?

Of course, if “Afterlife” delivered a nonstop barrage of thrills this film critic wouldn’t even notice the style choices made for the movie.

You nailed it right there Christian. If any of these movies would grab us by the lapels and take us on a fun ride, there would be no nits to pick.

I can’t help but enjoy ‘Resident Evil.’ Not sure why, but it puts me in the same mood as when I used to watch ‘Walker Texas Ranger.’ Strange?

I didn’t hate “Afterlife” – it feels too much like a video game for me, but there are some good action scenes and I can’t get enough of Milla. Ever.
