The story behind the making of “Touching Home” is almost as compelling as the film itself.
That’s no slight against the movie, released Jan. 5 on DVD. But the tale of two brothers, Noah and Logan Miller, practically bum-rushing acclaimed actor Ed Harris into co-starring in their project – and him accepting! – is the stuff of movie lore.
The film itself got overlooked over the past few months, so there’s almost no chance Harris will get an Oscar nomination for his performance in the film.
That’s a shame. Harris makes a potentially hackneyed role – that of a drunk and frequently disorderly dad to two aspiring baseball players – into something of consequence. The Millers, who wrote, starred in and directed the film, acquit themselves nicely on all counts in their feature film debut. And their instincts about Harris were a strike right down the middle.
“Touching Home” is a bit rough in spots, but it’s heartfelt in the best of ways and offers a real feel for the odds ball players face en route to the big leagues.

I am definately going to check this out (hopefully at the B.O.). I never heard of this film!
This movie was great… and by far an OUTSTANDING performance by Ed Harris. There is no doubt in my mind that it will be a shame if he gets passed up on a nomination, let alone the win. I have yet to see a film this year that had an actor grip my attention the way he does in Touching Home. A must see!
