More than a few film critics lamented the sight of Robert De Niro recycling stale puns in the new comedy “Little Fockers.”
“The Godfocker?”
Sigh.
So it’s a perfect time to revisit the 1980 film “Raging Bull,” the actor’s pugilistic triumph based on the life of Jake LaMotta. The film makes its Blu-ray debut Jan. 11 along with the expected onslaught of extras.
The biggest extra, besides co-star Joe Pesci’s hair, is seeing De Niro’s commitment to what would be for most actors the role of a lifetime. De Niro doesn’t need to hang his acting hat on this “Bull,” but it still stands as a triumph of both physical and emotional transformation.
