‘Network’ nabs Rocky Mountain honors

Add another critics group to the list of those that “like” “The Social Network.”

The Denver Film Critics Society just named the David Fincher drama as the Best Picture of 2010. The film, already the favorite to win Best Picture at the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony, gets a little extra juice from the Colo.-based society. (WWTW is a voting member of the group).

The DFCS also gave Fincher Best Director honors and awarded the film’s screenwriter, Aaron Sorkin, with its Best Adapted Screenplay honor.

The Society’s other choices fell mostly in line with the conventional wisdom regarding other Oscar favorites. Colin Firth was named Best Actor for his masterful work in “The King’s Speech,” while Natalie Portman earned Best Actress honors for “Black Swan.”

“The Fighter” swept the supporting categories – Christian Bale and Melissa Leo – while “Tron: Legacy” beat out “Network’ for Best Score.
