What you won’t see on Oscar night

What you won’t see on Oscar night

If this year’s Oscar ceremony ends up feeling familiar it won’t be an accident.

No matter how many times the producers behind the annual gala tweak the formula (one comedian! two comedians! no comedians at all!) the template remains unchanged.

Same boring technical awards that 98 percent of the viewing public won’t care about. Same creepy “In Memoriam” video reel where people rank the recently deceased by applause levels. Same program that clocks in at least an hour too long. And, in recent years, the same dearth of genuine star power replaced by Flavors of the Moment.

Yes, I’m talking about Miley Cyrus taking the stage.

But there’s plenty you won’t see during Sunday night’s telecast. Here’s a short list – but feel free to add your own items:

  • Any speech including the phrase, “this is a real honor … but the book was so much better.”
  • Ricky Gervais – although there’s a slight chance he’ll be used as a punchline.
  • Criticism aimed at President Barack Obama, the war in Afghanistan or anything else that would reflect badly on the current administration. Political grandstanding is so 2008.
  • No Niven-esque streakers. And that’s a real shame.
  • Rob Lowe (or Snow White, for that matter)

Meryl Streep taking home yet another worthless trophy for a bad performance.

But you will hear a bunch of uninformed boobs praise the protesters in Wisconsin.. further alienating most of America.

I’m sure the GOP-controlled House will also get some criticism.

I doubt anyone will mention our troops (again), who continue to risk their lives in Iraq & Afghanistan, as well as provide assistance in places such as Haiti following natural disasters.
