Killer Trailer Alert: ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love.’

The best part of enduring the sneak peak at “Something Borrowed” last night,  a new rom-com starring – shudder – Kate Hudson, was seeing the trailer which preceded it.

Crazy, Stupid, Love.” (out this July) stars Steve Carell as a clueless divorced man attempting to rejoing the singles scene. He’s aided by a handsome cad (Ryan Gosling) with washboard abs and a killer smile. The former fuels the trailer’s great final gag. The film co-stars Marisa Tomei, Emma Stone and Julianne Moore – so far, so great. And the minds behind the movie previously gave us “Bad Santa” and “I Love You Phillip Morris” (out on Blu-ray today, BTW).

But the “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” trailer can’t be found online yet. You’ll have to take my word for how good it is. Hopefully, the film itself will measure up. WWTW recently screened a film – I can’t say which one yet – with an awful trailer that nonetheless charmed the Argyle socks off me.

Note: I’ll link to the “Crazy” trailer once it becomes available.

Update: Voila, here it is

That is my gauge of a movie sight unseen…If the trailer sucks, the movie is great. If the trailer is awesome, the movie stinks.

Care to give examples of both, Mike?

Transformers trailers are great…the movies…meh.
The Fighter trailer looked boring to me (I’m sick of Boston accented films) but the movie was terrific.
The original Arthur trailer was dull to me but the movie was fantastic.

I am of course just saying that a good trailer makes me think the film is going to be golden, and therefore I expect the movie to be as good if not better. (I can get set for disappointment)

A bad trailer makes me think the film is going to stink so my bar is set so low that even a modest showing makes me rave about it.

I’m fickle.

I like that the trailer doesn’t give the entire movie away.
