Two new comedies = zero laughs?

Two new comedies = zero laughs?

Your Highness Danny McBride James FrancoWant to laugh this weekend at the movies? Trust the trailers attached to the two new film comedies heading our way and you could be in trouble.

“Your Highness,” a wacky medieval romp starring and co-written by Danny McBride, boasts a cringe-worthy trailer with gags swiped from a bad Benny Hill bit. And “Arthur,” the remake of the 1981 Dudley Moore classic, also feels like a laugh-free affair based on its two initial trailers.

But trailers aren’t everything.

Some films simply work better in context, and it’s hard to extract the funny from them to fill a 90-second trailer (like “The Promotion”). Others pack all the best bits together for our amusement (like “Pineapple Express”) and leave little to discover in the actual film.

WWTW screened one of the two new comedies and can report it’s far funnier than the trailer suggests. Come back tomorrow to find out which movie exceeds its early, lackluster tease.

I am going to go see Your Highness for one reason and that is to check out Natilie Portman in a thong. It will be worth the matinee price, but I am not going into it expecting to see more than a few chuckles and possibly a flash of some nudity. Other than that it I have no expectations what so ever.

Really? I’d pay not to see Natalie Portman in a thong. Mila Kunis, a whole different story. I think Your Highness wants to be Pineapple Express and other stoner flicks, the trailer doesn’t convince me it gets there.

You can’t go wrong with either Portman or Kunis, says the diplomatic movie blogger

Oh, I’ll pay to see both in a thong!

I can’t explain it exactly, but Portman falls in the Julia Roberts/Gwennie Paltrow category of women who make me want to barf. I don’t like their acting, I don’t like their smugness, I just can’t with them. Maybe I see it differently as a woman, but I avoid anything with them involved. And personally, Nat is nowhere near the interesting and sexy actress that Kunis is, and she’s funny!
