It’s impossible to hear David Arquette bemoan the fate of his marriage in interviews and then push those thoughts aside while watching him quarrel with estranged spouse Courteney Cox in “Scream 4.”
Reality often intrudes on the films we see, especially in an age when celebrities spill just about everything to the press.
That cold fact likely ruined Lindsay Lohan’s big screen career. And it doesn’t help with actors who let their voices be heard on political matters.
Can a liberal see Jon Voight on screen and not recall the actor’s incendiary comments about President Barack Obama? What about a conservative watching the politically charged “Fair Game” and recalling co-star Sean Penn’s many anti-Bush diatribes?
But in “Scream 4,” the real life drama surrounding Arquette and Courteney Cox actually helps the movie in question.
The film reunites the actors on screen as Dewey and Gale, respectively, the couple who met during the first “Scream” feature and are now married more than 10 years.
One of the many subplots in the new horror sequel is the strain on their marriage caused by the new round of murders in poor Woodsboro, the town where Ghostface keeps upping his body count.
The WWTW review of “Scream 4″ will be posted Friday, April 15, but suffice to say the film is one example where off-screen dynamics actually help the drama unfolding in front of us.

Interesting that you brought up this topic, as I was wondering about the same things when I saw their promotional photographs together.
