Our first glimpse of the Coen brothers

Blood Simple Blu ray M Emmett Walsh

Film critics found plenty to admire about the 1984 film “Blood Simple.” But could anyone have predicted it marked the dawn of the most remarkable brother act in film history?

The film noir classic, out this week on Blu-ray as a solo title and as part of a four-film Coen Brothers Collection, hinted at the brilliance Joel and Ethan Coen would later flash in films like “Raising Arizona,” “Fargo,” “Miller’s Crossing,” and “No Country for Old Men.”

This week offers a chance to see their first feature, starring the great character actor M. Emmett Walsh and a feisty newcomer named Frances McDormand, in glorious High-def.
